YMCA Derbyshire's Chairman elected YMCA World President

Peter Posner OBE, Chairman of YMCA Derbyshire’s Board of Trustees, has been elected President of the World Council of YMCAs at the movement’s 18th World Council being held in Colorado, USA.

YMCA Derbyshire celebrates Grade 2 assessment by Ofsted

YMCA Derbyshire's Study Programme provision has been officially described as “good” by Ofsted following a three-day visit by inspectors to its centres in Derby, Ilkeston and Chesterfield.

Sleep Easy 2014 is a record-breaking success

110 people braved sub-zero temperatures to sleep out for a night to help local charity YMCA Derbyshire provide a safe front door to local and vulnerable young people facing homelessness. The fundraising target of £19,000 has now been smashed, with over £23,000 raised so far.

Derbyshire County Cricket Club supports Sleep Easy 2014

Derbyshire County Cricket Club are throwing open the gates of the County Ground in Derby for a second year running to provide a venue for our annual sponsored sleep-out. We are aiming to raise £19,000 through the event on 28th February.

YMCA Derbyshire questions government's role in Derby's "draconian" cuts

The Chief Executive of YMCA Derbyshire has written to the Prime Minister and the Housing Minister to ask for their advice after “truly draconian 84% cuts” to Housing Related Support (HRS) services were proposed in Derby despite government assurances that it would protect such funding.

YMCA Derbyshire has reacted with dismay after Derby City Council confirmed that its proposed budget for the next financial year would see funding for Housing Related Support (HRS) slashed by a devastating 84%.

YMCA Derbyshire has expressed grave concern for vulnerable people in Derby after Cath Roff, the City Council’s Strategic Director of Adults, Health & Housing, revealed that the planned cuts of 65% in funding for Housing Related Support (HRS) services will in fact be even deeper and more damaging.

Warm welcome for new YMCA shop in Derby City Centre
YMCA shop in Derby

YMCA Derbyshire has warmly welcomed the opening of a new YMCA charity shop on Albion Street in Derby
City Centre. The shop, operated by YMCA Shops (a division of YMCA England), will officially open its doors at
10.30am on Thursday 24th May and will be run in close collaboration with YMCA Derbyshire.

A hundred people took part in YMCA Derbyshire’s Sleep Easy event over the night of 3rd March 2012 in the car park of Pride Park Stadium, braving near freezing temperatures and rain showers to make a powerful statement of their support for homeless people.

Celebrating Achievement event 2011

YMCA Derbyshire and partners Housing 21 have been named as winners in the first Awards for All Ages, presented yesterday at the House of Lords. They were recognised in the ‘Leading the Way’ category of the awards for helping young people into work through training in catering and social care at Handyside Court.

TTS Group Ltd, an East Midlands-based company specialising in the development and retail of a full range
of resources for schools, has become the first corporate sponsor of YMCA Derbyshire’s campaign to mark
its 165th anniversary by donating £200-worth of sports equipment.

Chesterfield comedy night to raise funds for YMCA

YMCA Derbyshire will be hosting a fun-filled night of comedy and entertainment featuring two top local comedians at The Riverside Club, Chesterfield on 15th October, starting at 8pm. All proceeds will go to a special fund to help YMCA service users in Chesterfield and the charity’s new Project 165 appeal.
