Extended Services

The Extended Schools Service provides opportunities for pupils at a number of nurseries and primary schools within Derby to take part in a variety of activities out of school hours. We are currently working within the Babington Cluster of schools, which consists of Dale Primary School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Castle Nursery, Stonehill Nursery, St Chad’s Nursery and St Chad's Infant school.

In partnership with these schools we organise and run a number of popular holiday activities and trips for pupils and families to take part in.  These activities range from daily sports camps through to educational and fun family trips to places such as Conkers Winter Wonderland, White Post Farm. We have even organised family holidays to various UK destinations. These projects give families a much needed opportunity to engage with each other in a relaxed setting away from the pressures of everyday life.

As well as holiday provision we also offer a wide range of extra curricular sport sessions, taking place before and after school as well as during lunchtimes. Details of these sessions can be found below.

Sports Clubs at Firs Estate Primary School

We have recently set up Firs Estate Primary School's first ever football team. Due to the fact that the school has no grass area and no available staff to manage the team, Firs Estate pupils have never had the opportunity to represent their school in football. Now, every Monday, we run a training session for Year 5 and 6 boys and girls with the aim of allowing these pupils the chance to play football matches against other schools within the area. This has proved extremely popular within the school with both pupils and staff.

We are also running a breakfast sports club which pupils attend before school to play different sports and are then are treated to breakfast in the canteen.

Thursday is our day for a multi sports after-school club. This club is open for all year groups from reception through to Year 6. This allows pupils of different ages to work together, with some of the older pupils acting a coaches and role models for the younger pupils.

Sports Clubs at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

Every Thursday at St Joseph’s we run a multi sports club for different year groups. The topic at this club varies throughout the different terms, all leading up to the Olympics in the summer!!

We are currently looking to set up a football team at St Joseph’s, much like at Firs Estate.

Increasing popularity

All of the Extended Service we provide are proving to be very popular in the schools and nurseries we work in partnership with. This has been evidenced by our ever increasing attendances and demand for places, causing us to put on extra sessions, trips and transport to accommodate our customers' needs.
