The Campus for Learning and Development is our flagship facility and was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester on 2nd November 2010 – see here.
It is a ground-breaking initiative, bringing together 83 units of supported accommodation, learning and development facilities, meeting and conference facilities, an enterprise zone, a café open to the general public and office space all on one integrated site.

The Campus vision
The idea behind our vision is based on the university campus concept with areas of accommodation, space for communal activities and socialising as well as dedicated areas for vocational training and personal development.
Gillian Sewell, Chief Executive of YMCA Derbyshire, said: “The new Campus building is, quite literally, a dream come true. The initial vision of an integrated facility drawing together residential accommodation and state-of-the-art training facilities has become a reality."
“The opening is the culmination not just of a building project but also of years of research, planning and fundraising. I feel sure that this new facility will give us the ability to make a real difference to the lives of many more young people by giving them the tools they need to flourish as responsible and productive members of the community.
“I am extremely grateful to all those who have worked so hard to complete the Campus building project – from those involved in the original designs to our funders, partner agencies, builders and coordinators. It has been a great team effort and the end result, I am sure, has done us all proud.”
The logo
The graphic element of the logo (the ‘triangle and bird’) represents what we are about. The four colours each represent one of our areas of work (Supported Housing; Learning & Development; Children’s and Young People’s Services; Sustainable Community Development) and the four associated values that underpin all we do (Protect; Trust; Hope; Persevere). They also represent the service user members we serve, while the triangle represents our organisation. The three sides of the triangle symbolise our mission to develop the whole person – body, mind and spirit.
Our service user members come into contact with YMCA Derbyshire and we take them as they are – hence the fact that the lines have rough rather than smooth and polished edges. Our aim is to support them to flourish and fulfil their potential, allowing them to attain freedom and launch themselves into a bright, independent future – represented by the bird.
In short, we take our service user members as they are and, by supporting them to develop in body, mind and spirit, we transform their lives so that they can flourish and attain their potential like a bird who flies free.
