You are very welcome to YMCA Derbyshire. We are an independent Christian charity committed to helping young people, particularly at times of need, regardless of gender, race, ability or faith. We operate from four centres across Derbyshire: two in Derby and one each in Chesterfield and Ilkeston. We provide supported housing for vulnerable and homeless people aged 16 to 64, innovative learning and development programmes, various schemes for children in and out of school and other projects aimed at achieving sustainable community development. Founded in 1847, we are affiliated to the national and international YMCA movement, which is now active in over 120 countries with 30 million members. Serving the people of Derbyshire continuously for 165 years The YMCA movement's founder, George Williams, even visited us in 1892 to open a new centre. As the door was ceremonially opened, Mr Williams expressed his “fervent hope” that it would “prove a door to hope, happiness and success”. Since then we have continued to respond dynamically to the real and changing needs of the communities we serve, while remaining true to our unchanging values and vision. |
